About Girl Hockey Movement
Why did I launch the Girl Hockey Movement? As a hockey mom to a girl, I started to see the discrepancy between Hockey and Girls Hockey. My Daughter is lucky to play on an all girls team, albeit against mostly boy teams. She didn’t have to get changed in the bathroom, under the stairs, or in furnace rooms etc... but there is still so many others that do. I want girls in hockey to be more recognized, not more than boys but I want the inequality to be less. There is so many reasons to have our daughters playing Hockey. It teaches them life skills. It teaches them that you win some, and you lose some, how to take directions and ask for help. It teaches them how to lift up other players and be a part of a team. It gives them the confidence to become strong women. My goal for the Girl Hockey Movement is to recognize girls/women in hockey. I want to celebrate their achievements on and off the ice. I would also like to develop online training programs taught by female professional players. Theses athletes need to be recognized for their achievements in the sport. I would also like to have them use this to make a supplemental income, because as we know our female professional players don’t make our NHL players salaries, not even the salaries of our AHL affiliate players. We must support our female professional players more than we are now. I would also like to set up a fund of scholarships and prizes for exceptional players and for players who can’t afford hockey. Players shouldn’t not play because some parents are going through tuff times.
